I have never been much of a fan of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series (I don’t think I have actually even watched a whole episode, to be honest) and I have never read a single issue of the comic book series. However, I am a huge fan of the Buffy graphic novels, both the hardcovers and the trade paperbacks – I just can’t get enough of them!
If you had told me a couple of years ago that a large number of the Buffy graphic novels published by Dark Horse would soon go out of print and then start commanding impressively high prices on the secondary market, yes, I would have laughed at you. I am not laughing now, that’s for sure. What follows is a pretty comprehensive list (if i say so myself) of Buffy the Vampire Slayer graphic novels that are out of print and likely to net you a tidy sum if you decide to list them for sale on Amazon anytime soon. There is just one more thing before I get to the list. At this point I would like to give credit where credit is due when it comes to my awareness of this Buffy phenomenon; Phil Newton used to have a column called Trade Secrets (on comicbookinvest.com) in which he discussed out of print graphic novels, and in one of those columns he mentioned an out of print Buffy trade that aroused my curiosity and got me searching to see if more of these books might in fact be ‘a thing’. In fact they were and so here you go…
The Cha-Ching List of OOP Buffy Graphic Novels
*Even though this is a list of the various out of print books published by Dark Horse there is one book from BOOM STUDIOS that warrants a mention in this list and that is:
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 Library Edition Hardcover
Okay, now that that’s out of the way, on to the OOP Dark Horse goodness:
Hardcovers
- Angel and Faith: Season Nine Library Edition Volume 1 (An ancillary book but one still firmly set in the Buffy-verse)
- Angel and Faith: Season Nine Library Edition Volume 2 (see above)
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Library Edition Volume 2
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 Library Edition Volume 3
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Library Edition Volume 4
- Buffy: Season Nine Library Edition Volume 1
- Buffy: Season Nine Library Edition Volume 2
- Buffy Season 10 Library Edition Volume 2
Omnibus Format Paperbacks (Omniboo? Omnibi? I dunno…)
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Omnibus Volume 1 (This book is almost out of stock even among secondary market sellers on Amazon which is always a good thing for those of you who find a copy to list on the big A! )
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 Omnibus Volume 2
Trade Paperbacks
- Angel and Faith Season Ten Volume 3: United(Again this book and the next on the list are close enough to Buffy to be worth your while)
- Angel and Faith Season Ten Volume 5: A Tale Of Two Families
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8 Volume 1: The Long Way Home
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 Volume 1: Freefall
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 9 Volume 4: Welcome to the Team
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 Volume 3: Love Dares You
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 Volume 4: Old Demons
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 Volume 5: Pieces on the Ground
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 10 Volume 6: Own It
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 11 Volume 1: The Spread of Their Evil
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 11 Volume 2: One Girl In All the World
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning
So there you have it, a comprehensive list of Buffy graphic novels that should all be worth your while to list on the secondary market. One of the great things about the Buffy material from Dark Horse is that if you keep an eye on this stuff, you will probably notice more of the books in the series joining this list and becoming worth your while to list on Amazon or elsewhere for prices significantly above cover. For example, when I first became aware of this Buffy phenomenon on Amazon just over a year ago, there were pretty much no books from the Season 8 or 9 series that were worth my time, and now that has changed with Season 8 Volume 1 and Season 9 Volumes 1 and 4 making their way onto the list. So yeah, things change and, yeah, Buffy fans are ravenous for these stories and willing to pay up after they go out of print. (Yay!)
Happy hunting!
